Wikipedia pauses AI-generated summaries pilot after editors protest

Wikipedia has reportedly paused an experiment that used AI to summarize articles on its platform after editors pushed again.

Wikipedia introduced earlier this month it was going to run the experiment for customers who’ve the Wikipedia browser extension put in and selected to choose in, in keeping with 404 Media. AI-generated summaries appeared on the prime of each Wikipedia article with a yellow “unverified” label. Customers needed to click on to increase and browse them.

Editors virtually instantly criticized the pilot, elevating considerations that it may harm Wikipedia’s credibility.
