EU trade chief flies to Washington again in bid to defuse transatlantic trade fight


The go to comes because the EU weighs imposing retaliatory tariffs on €21.5 billion in U.S. exports to “mirror” the brand new, and broader, metal and aluminum duties imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this month.

It’s Šefčovič’s second journey to Washington since Trump took workplace in January. He’ll meet Lutnick, the Commerce secretary, and Commerce Consultant Jamieson Greer on Tuesday. It wasn’t but clear whether or not the EU commerce negotiator would attend some other public engagements in Washington D.C.
