Abstract

  • HVILINA’s Universum Cosmographia is a 3D planetarium watch mixing medieval star maps with trendy horology

HVILINA’s newly unveiled Universum Cosmographia is a timepiece that artfully fuses historic astronomy with trendy horology. Drawing inspiration from medieval star maps and trendy planetary science, the watch encompasses a three-dimensional planetarium and a GMT disc styled after a Ninth-century celestial chart. Developed in collaboration with Professor Richard Kerner, a Sorbonne physicist and medieval cartography skilled, the challenge bridges historical cosmological worldviews with present-day innovation.

Housed in a chrome steel case with a redesigned bezel and caseback, the watch is protected by sapphire crystals on either side, full with a 50-meter water resistance. At its core lies a meticulously crafted 3D mannequin of the Photo voltaic System, the place miniature stylized planets seem to drift in zero gravity. Guilloché engraving enhances the multi-layered dial, including depth and a way of celestial motion.

Above the planetary show, a rotating GMT disc unveils a medieval star map by a sculpted aperture. In the meantime, Latin inscriptions of zodiac constellations unfold in a 24-hour cycle, with contrasting mild and darkish halves indicating the day and evening.
The timepiece is powered by the Miyota 9075 Premium automated motion, delivering GMT performance, a 42-hour energy reserve and a every day accuracy of -10/+30 seconds. The motion’s rotor is engraved with trans-Neptunian objects. This contains the oval-shaped dwarf planet Haumea, thus reinforcing the astronomical theme.

Obtainable in 4 colorways, every restricted to 500 items, the Universum Cosmographia comes fitted with a quick-release rubber strap with non-obligatory upgrades resembling a leather-based strap, customized serial quantity, or a customized GMT disc that includes the wearer’s zodiac signal. Priced at €400 EUR (approx. $461 USD), the timepiece is now obtainable for pre-order through HVILINA’s webstore. The timepiece will probably be formally launched in November, 2025.
