Guo Pei x Tan Guanghui Glazed Splendor Art Basel


At Artwork Basel Hong Kong 2025 this week, UBS will current a brand new program devoted to reimagining Chinese language porcelain by means of modern inventive practices. In commemorating this inauguration, UBS partnered up with K11 Craft & Guild Basis for a specifically commissioned piece. Entitled “Glazed Splendor,” this distinctive piece is co-created by celebrated designer, Guo Pei, and Grasp Tan Guanghui, a Nationwide-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Heir of Guangcai — a kind of porcelain characterised by intricate overglaze hand-painted decorations.

This modern work reinvents the craft of Guangcai, showcasing 6,000 hand-painted porcelain tiles that kind a golden couture robe, adorned with floral motifs of peonies and edelweiss that function an emblem of China and Switzerland’s cultural connection.
By means of this partnership, Guo Pei explored the intricate artwork of Guangcai porcelain beneath the steering of Grasp Tan, whose unparalleled experience in hand-painting porcelain tiles introduced precision and artistry to the undertaking. “The method taught me to understand the fragile stability between custom and innovation, as we pushed the boundaries of what porcelain might obtain in a recent context,” Guo Pei tells Hypebeast.
