- ‘The Enlightenment’ runs by way of August 29 and features a free children’ workshop on June 26
Los Angeles-based artist Greg Ito has taken over Rockefeller Middle with The Enlightenment, a vibrant public exhibition offered in partnership with Artwork Manufacturing Fund as a part of the Artwork in Focus program.
On view from June 2, the multi-site set up options work, sculptures, dioramas and photographic works that draw from private reminiscence and themes of transformation. Ito started most of the featured work throughout the California wildfires, layering symbols like flames, flowers, doorways and the setting solar to mirror cycles of destruction and renewal.
At 45 Rockefeller Plaza, Ito transforms street-facing vitrines into sculptural installs, each framed by home windows and infused with cinematic lighting that shifts from day to twilight. Close by, a 125-foot panoramic vinyl wraps the lower-level rink house with a story sequence mixing staged images and painted visuals.
This marks the primary time Ito’s portray and images are proven aspect by aspect in such a public setting. Parts of the exhibition additionally seem throughout a number of Rockefeller buildings, reinforcing the storytelling with recurring motifs.
As a part of the programming, a free interactive kids’s workshop will happen on June 26 from 2–5pm, co-hosted by Ito and Artwork Manufacturing Fund, supported by Leatherology. The Enlightenment is on view by way of August 29.
