MAVI‘s sizzling streak continues. The North Carolina rapper is displaying no indicators of slowing down this summer season, protecting himself busy with each new music and vinyl re-releases, most not too long ago unveiling a brand new version of the shadowbox vinyl. His newest transfer? Extra new music that comes geared up with one more big-name collaborator. Dubbed “Potluck,” the sprawling, synth-infused minimize marks MAVI’s first-ever collaborative providing with Smino.
“Potluck” arrives on the heels of MAVI’s newest link-up with Earl Sweatshirt, “Landgrab,” which signaled the pair’s first in-studio collaboration since 2019’s “EL TORO COMBO MEAL.”
The just-over-two-and-a-half-minute “Potluck” takes the same tone to “Landgrab,” with Mav and Smi passing the beat forwards and backwards effortlessly to at least one one other, making it seem to be that is at the least their fifth time working collectively. It’s arduous to consider it’s simply the primary.
MAVI handles the primary verse and refrain, handing it over to Smino for the second. “Lil’ MAVI you bought me, phrase, yeah / Making a play, Mike Tomlin (Woo) / Twin with me too, he Omar Epps, two step to the congre- / -Gation like a bishop,” Smino spits to start out off.
