
New Orleans rapper and bounce queen Huge Freedia has introduced her first gospel album. Urgent Onward, which takes its title from the Urgent Onward Baptist Church, in New Orleans, is out August 8. The follow-up to 2023’s Central Metropolis is Huge Freedia’s third profession studio album. Take a look at the stained glass–themed cowl artwork and full tracklist for the LP beneath.
“I’ve been ready my entire profession to make this album,” Huge Freedia stated in an announcement. “The church all the time spoke to me: the drama, the choir, and the apparel. We’re in unsure instances. I’m hoping followers can get some religion and hope from this album.”
Huge Freedia wrote Urgent Onward as a strategy to replicate on her lifelong connection to gospel music after becoming a member of her church choir at age 10. Additional deepening its themes of affection, hope, and acceptance is her option to dedicate the album to Devon Hurst, her accomplice who died this previous Might. She spoke about Hurst in a brand new interview with Billboard, telling Joe Lynch, “This album began as a message of therapeutic for the world—however now, it’s me who’s holding on to the music for energy.”
The 14-track Urgent Onward contains the current singles “Take My Hand,” “Sunday Greatest” (that includes Tamar Braxton), and “Church.”
