Whitfield beforehand spent eight years with Asda and George from 2008 onwards, holding senior management positions in operations, ecommerce, industrial and basic merchandise.
Whitfield was appointed as CEO of Matalan in March 2023 to steer the corporate’s transformation programme.
She rebuilt a brand new management workforce, together with Ali Jones as chief buyer and omnichannel officer, Ben Smith as chief buying and selling officer and Phil Hackney as chief provide chain operation officer.
In October 2024 she stepped down from her place after 18 months to pursue a portfolio profession.
