For Seoul-based artist Jang Koal, a window is a portal into one thing near magic. A lot of her work takes cues from views from her studio – cityscapes and bursts of greenery under, pulsing with shifting feelings, wealthy narratives and flecks of hope.
In Solitary Inn, her upcoming solo showcase at Nanzuka Underground, the painter invitations viewers into her interior worlds. The exhibition options 15 new works that discover quiet, introspective moments that welcome the reminiscence to the forefront.
Staged in a sequence of room-like vignettes, every portray is an intimate encounter. We catch a glimpse of Jang’s femme figures caught between reverie and actuality: languidly laying on couches, peeking into glass fishtanks, gazing out of automobile backseats or just standing by means of the body of a keyhole. Complimenting the compositions, every work is accomplished in a dreamy wash of colours that recall a young previous whereas evoking the mystique of a coming second.
“Solitary Inn is an imaginary inn,” Jang explains. “It doesn’t look ahead to anybody to go to. As an alternative, every room is an area for a person. Right here, fragments of life, unforgettable hope and faint remnants of reminiscences quietly reside.”
The exhibition will open on Could 16 and stay on view by means of June 21.
