Although FUTURA is finest identified for his roots in New York Metropolis’s graffiti scene, the presentation marks his first solo present in Chicago. He shares a private connection to town via his mom Billie who was born in Chicago and FUTURA spent summers there all through his childhood, visiting his grandmother who suffered from persistent sickness. The exhibition coincides with the fiftieth anniversary of his mom’s passing, including a deeply private layer to the presentation.
In an announcement, FUTURA displays on these summers in Chicago, remembering peach cobbler on the porch, studying what a pantry was and the consolation of a house that felt far faraway from his New York condominium. “’Household Affair’ suggests my journey has come full circle,” he mentioned in a press assertion.
The exhibition options new large-scale work, collages, a six-panel work and items made on skateboards. Altogether, these works proceed FUTURA’s evolution as a multidisciplinary artist in all spheres of the artwork world whereas weaving in private recollections and cultural references.
The present opened June 17 and runs via July 26.
