This Curvy Bench Gives Plywood a Whole New Personality

Plywood doesn’t at all times get the credit score it deserves. Too typically dismissed as a humble, utilitarian materials, it’s extra related to underbellies and worktops than standout design. However French designer Aurélie Richard is right here to remind us that materiality is aware of no limits within the fingers of creativity. Designed in collaboration with French beech veneer specialists La Saônoise, the STRATE bench is a curvy, sculptural seat that transforms layered beech plywood right into a showstopping second of type and performance.

Developed via co-design workshops between Aurélie Richard Studio and La Saônoise, the transient was easy but bold: showcase Saônoise’s knowledgeable craftsmanship by creating an illustration piece that elevates each the fabric and the ultimate product. The studio selected the on a regular basis bench – a well-recognized, purposeful type – and reimagined it as a “Saônoise component-object.” The result’s STRATE, a bench that’s each refined and playful, proudly displaying its development via daring curves, uncovered layers, and a rhythmic interaction of repeating kinds.
