Shein hit with VAT and customs lawsuit


Shein is dealing with claims that it dedicated customs and VAT fraud whereas flying parcels from China to the UK.

In paperwork seen by The Telegraph, Shein has been accused of “manipulating customs declarations for VAT evasion”.

Customs agent IT Approach Transgroup Clearance says it acted for Shein between 2021 and 2024, and lodged the declare alongside transportation service Orange Transgroup final month.

IT Approach Transgroup Clearance said that it labored alongside Shein “underneath stress and reputational threat”, including that Shein “misrepresented parcel accountability”. As such it’s pursuing damages of £5.8m from Shein.

A Shein spokesman instructed Drapers: “A neighborhood service supplier is withholding reimbursement of monies to Shein. Shein has begun arbitration proceedings towards the service supplier.

“The allegations which have been made towards Shein are fully unfounded. Shein complies with all related legal guidelines and laws in every promote it operates in and can defend and pursue its reliable pursuits rigorously.”
